Established in 1974, Sunset Hills Elementary School (SHES) has a reputation for providing an excellent learning environment for students where “Seagulls Soar and Character Counts!”  Character Counts lessons are embedded in many activities on campus, including at “TRRFFC Friday” assemblies where we come together to celebrate good character, friendship, our community and school pride.

The cornerstone of the Sunset Hills Elementary School community is the collaborative relationship the school has with the Sunset Hills Elementary PTA and the Sunset Hills Educational Foundation.  More than 275 parent and community volunteers donated over 5000 hours last year toward in-class support of teachers, additional educational programs (e.g. Running Club, Art Odyssey, Around the World Night, Science Fair, Lego Club), and community-building activities (e.g. Halloween Carnival, Sock Hop, Talent Show).

Sunset Hills currently serves approximately 410 students in Transitional Kindergarten through Fifth grade.  The school is located in the quaint community of Rancho Penasquitos in San Diego, California and is a part of the renowned Poway Unified School District.  Sunset Hills is proud to be represented with more than 27 languages spoken.

School in the time of COVID-19 has been challenging, but Sunset Hills Elementary School, the Sunset Hills PTA, and the Sunset Hills Educational Foundation have worked hard, together to continue to support our community educationally and socially-emotionally in a safe manner.   The staff and families at Sunset Hills Elementary thank you for your support!
